Third and fourth in a series of studies on the book of Matthew. Jesus had announced the nearness of the kingdom, but the kingdom with its deliverance from the many evils of present life could not immediately appear. No one could achieve the perfection demanded by the Sermon on the Mount apart from a deliverance from sin. The death of Christ, as the One Who saves from sin, must occur first, and provide the basis for all the blessings of the kingdom.
